Interests 

2. Dr Carol Bevers declared a conflict of interest due to being a study director of one of the Genotoxicity studies submitted by the Applicant of RP1765 (Item 5). In addition to being the study director, she was also an employee at the time that the company undertook a further 5 Genotoxicity tests for this Application. It was agreed that Dr Bevers would not be present for discussion on this item and would leave the AEJEG meeting once the discussion on RP41 had concluded.

3. The chair welcomed Members and the Secretariat.

4. Welcome to Dr Stuart Adams and Dr William Peveler who have joined the AEJEG.

5. Apologies were received from Professor Shirley Price and Dr Andrew Collins and Dr William Peveler of the AEJEG.  

Item 2: Matters Arising: Verbal Update on RP733 

6. The Secretariat updated the AEJEG Members on the current status of planned RFIs to be delivered to the Applicant of RP733 on areas of homology and thermal degradation.

Item 3: RP41: Draft Committee Advice Document on the application for Extension of use of curcumin (E 100) to a new food category “egg analogues”. Exposure Assessment only. AEJEG/2025/08 (Reserved)

7. The AEJEG was presented with and asked to evaluate the draft Committee Advice Document (CAD) for regulated products Application RP41. This Application is for the extension of use of curcumin (E 100) to the new proposed food category ‘egg analogues’ under category 12.9 ‘protein products, excluding products covered in category 1.8’. This would be further separated into ‘Liquid egg analogues’ and ‘Solid egg analogues’. 

8. The AEJEG reviewed the draft CAD for Application RP41. Overall, the AEJEG were satisfied with the contents of the CAD. It was agreed that any editorial changes would be made and the CAD would be finalised via email correspondence.

9. Due to a direct conflict of interest, Dr Carol Beevers was not present for the discussion of this item.  


10. The AEJEG considered the Application for the authorisation of 2,4-Dimethyl-5-vinylthiazole [FL-no: 15.005], 4-Methyl-5-vinylthiazole [FL-no: 15.018] and 4,5-Dimethyl-2-isobutyl-3-thiazoline [FL-no: 15.032] for their use as a food flavourings under Assimilated Regulation (EC) No 1331/2008.  


11. Overall, the Applicants RFI responses were accepted and Members agreed no further RFI would be raised in relation to these.

12. The AEJEG reviewed the genotoxicity studies provided by the Applicant, these were supplemented with tables and a summary document of the results provided by a genotoxicity expert who was in attendance for this item.
 

13. Members reviewed the provided studies and concluded that there was no concern for genotoxicity.

14. The AEJEG reviewed the cover paper for RP1765, noting this contained all the RFI responses and all genotoxicity studies previously discussed.
 

15. The AEJEG reviewed all of the information provided and it was agreed a committee advice document (CAD) would be written for review.

Item 7: Minutes of the last meeting 

16. Members were presented with the minutes of the AEJEG meeting held on the 1st April 2025. 

17. The minutes of the last meeting were agreed as accurate record, subject to minor editorial changes. 

Item 8 – Any Other Business 

18. Members received an oral update on Application RP507.

19. Members were also informed that the Weight of Evidence: Flavourings Guidance was presented at the previous meeting.

20. An update was provided on the status of the smoke flavouring Applications.

21. Members were informed that the 90-day window for the claiming period was reduced to 30 days.

22. The next AEJEG meeting will be held virtually on the 17th of July 2025.
