Sara has worked in the field of analytical chemistry focusing on the development and validation of detection methods for the food and environmental testing sector for over 26 years. Sara’s research interests include the development of analytical solutions using LC and GC tandem mass spectrometry and High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry (HRMS) and for the determination of chemical and natural contaminants in foods, consumer goods and environmental samples. Sara is currently involved in the development and expansion of scope of analytical methods of analysis for PFAS (including newly regulated zwitterionic/cationic species) and other emerging environmental contaminants of concern including brominated flame retardants in food and environmental matrices. Sara has made significant contributions to a number of UK funded and EU consortium research projects and has been an invited speaker at various international scientific conferences. Sara has participated in EU Food and Veterinary Office (FVO) inspections acting as the independent laboratory expert and as a short-term expert delivering training on behalf of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to scientists from developing countries.
