Professor Boobis is Professor of Biochemical Pharmacology at Imperial College London and is recognised internationally in the field of mechanistic toxicology and toxicokinetics. He has years of experience of scientific advisory committee work at both a national and international level through his membership of DEFRA's Advisory Committee on Pesticides and as a member of the FAO/WHO Joint Expert Committee on Food Additives and Joint Meeting on Pesticides Residues, respectively. In addition to his appointment to the COT, Professor Boobis has also been appointed as a member of the COT's sister committee the Committee on the Carcinogenicity of Chemicals in Food, Consumer Products and the Environment. Dr Rebecca Dearman is Head of Immunology at the Syngenta Central Toxicology Laboratory, Macclesfield, Cheshire. An expert in the fields of immunotoxicology and allergy, Dr Dearman is widely published and has made many presentations at both national and international events. She was recently presented with the Young Immunologist of the Year Award by the Society of Toxicology in the United States. Dr Dearman is a member of a number of learned societies, including the Society for Toxicology, the British Toxicology Society and the British Society for Immunology, and is a member of the editorial board of Food and Chemical Toxicology and Biomarkers. Professor De Vries is Professor of Pharmacoepidemiology at the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmacology, University of Bath. Her specialist area of expertise is in the field of drug toxicity with particular reference to drug safety in pregnancy, diabetes and autoimmune disease.
Dr de Vries is a reviewer for a number of scientific journals, including the British Medical Journal and the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology. Dr Foster was appointed to the COT in February 2006. He is a senior principal pathologist in the Department of Safety Assessment at AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals in Alderley Park, Cheshire and has over 25 years experience in toxicological pathology. He is a Diplomate and Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists, is a past Chair of the Speciality Advisory Committee for Toxicology at the Royal College of Pathologists and is the current Chair of the Panel of Examiners for the Toxicology Speciality. He was President of the British Society of Toxicological Pathologists (BSTP) from 2002 to 2004 and has served on the Council of the BSTP since 2000.
He is an external examiner for the MSc in Toxicology at the University of Surrey and was a member of the Scientific Advisory Board for the Biomedical Sciences undergraduate degree at the University of Bradford from 2001 to 2004.
Dr Foster has published over 120 research papers, review articles and book chapters in the discipline of toxicology. Dr Fosters's appointment as a member of the Committee expires on 31 March 2009.

Dr David Harrison is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists, the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He is a Professor of Pathology at the University of Edinburgh; Honorary Consultant in Histopathology at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh; Director of the Edinburgh Cancer Research Centre and Cancer Research UK Clinical Cancer Centre, he is also Adjunct Professor of Medicinal Chemistry, University of Florida.
Dr Harrison's principal objective is to continue to co-ordinate strands of cancer research, from basic through translational to clinical, across Edinburgh and to other outside collaborators to facilitate the best environment possible for training and execution of good translational science. His research interests focus on molecular pathology, cell injury and apoptosis, and the genetic regulation of injury response. Dr Harrison is a vice-chair of the UK Gene Therapy Advisory Committee and a member of the UK Department of Health Advisory Committee on Carcinogenicity of Chemicals in Food, Consumer Products and the Environment (COC). Dr Harrison's appointment as a member of the COT expires on 31 March 2010.

Dr Jackson was appointed to the COT in October 2001. He is a Reader in clinical pharmacology and therapeutics at the University of Sheffield and an honorary consultant physician to the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust working in the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. His specialist areas of expertise are in pharmacology, pharmacokinetics and more recently therapeutics. He has a number of interests in the field of vascular research and with colleagues has been involved in the development of soundly based strategies for primary and secondary prevention of vascular disease. Professor Konje was appointed to the Committee on 1 April 2007. He is a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, as well as Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Head of Clinical Division of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Reproductive Sciences Section at the University of Leicester and the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. Professor Konje's expertise is in the field of reproductive sciences and the potential influence of toxins on pregnancy and reproduction in general. He has a specialist interest in xenobiotics, insecticides and their effects on human reproduction, especially with regards to teratogenicity and fetal growth.
He is currently chair of the Steering Group Committee of the FSA on Caffeine in pregnancy Research Programme, head of the maternity service at the Leicester Royal infirmary, and an elected member of the RCOG Council, representing Trent. Dr Geraldine McNeill was appointed to the COT on 1 December 2006. She holds a joint appointment between the University of Aberdeen, where she is Senior Lecturer in Nutrition Epidemiology in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Medicine, and the Rowett Research Institute in Aberdeen where she is head of the Public Health Nutrition research group. Dr McNeill has expertise in dietary exposure assessment in adults and children and is currently involved in a large scale survey of diets of Scottish schoolchildren, funded by FSA Scotland. She was a member of Grampian Research Ethics Committee from 2002-5 and is currently a member of the World Cancer Research Fund grants panel. Dr McNeill�s appointment as a member of the Committee expires on 31 March 2010.

Professor Morris was appointed to the COT on 1 December 2006. He is the Foundation Professor of Pharmacology and Physiology and Associate Dean for Research at the Hull York Medical School. He has published extensively on the effects of drugs, chemical and radiation on reproduction in human and experimental models, particularly in the male, for which he has received international recognition. He has experience with government and commercial organisations in preclinical risk assessment of reproductive hazards. Professor Morris maintains educational expertise in pharmacology and toxicology in general with contacts in several universities. He is currently the Hon. Secretary of the Society of Medicines research. Professor Morris has served on the editorial board of several learned journals and organised numerous international meetings. Dr Nick Plant was appointed to the Committee on 1 April 2007. He is a Senior Lecturer in Molecular Toxicology within the School of Biomedical and Molecular Sciences at the University of Surrey. His specialist interests include toxicology and drug metabolism, with specific focus on mechanisms of coordination of body responses to chemical insult.
Dr Plant is an Associate Editor of Xenobiotica and a member of the education sub-committee of the British Toxicology Society. He was awarded the British Toxicology Young Investigator Award in 2004. Dr Plant's appointment as a member of COT expires on 31 March 2010.

Dr David Tuthill was appointed to the Committee on 1 April 2007. He is a Consultant Paediatrician at the Children's Hospital for Wales, as well as Chair of the multidisciplinary Cardiff Nutrition Care Team and an active member of the Child Nutrition Panel, developing practical educational material for healthcare professionals on the many aspects of infant feeding.
Dr Tuthill has just completed his term as the Honorary Secretary of the Welsh Committee RCPCH and Honorary Secretary of the Advisory Sub Committee Paediatrics Child Health to Welsh Medical Committee. His research interests have centred on infant feeding, coeliac disease, medication safety and probiotics. His teaching commitments, among others, include being an honorary lecturer in Cardiff University, a lecturer to the paediatric Specialist Registrar national grid training in gastroenterology/nutrition.

Ms Alma Williams is a free-lance author, writer and consultant on consumer affairs. Mrs Williams is involved in consumer affairs at both a national and an international level. She has been an active member of a number of UK consumer groups for many years and was a founder member of Foodaware. She is currently a vice president of the Consumers' Association and the Institute of Trading Standards. Ms Williams is an alternate member and expert member to the European Economic Social Committee and has served on a number of EU consumer committees. She is also vice president of the Eurosafe.
